Vampire Cactus is up for voting again. He was an honorable mention/staff pick.
Sure to lose again, but would like to go out with a few votes at least. vote, please?
edit: turns out I have 3 entries in this derby. They are the only 3 I have ever submitted, so that's nice.
Other than the cactus one, there's also
Variations on a dream

work slowed to a halt.
i've found that i'm not so great at drawing a pattern.
having to clone stamp and mask each piece of this in order to make them fit together. will take a while to finish, and I don't even want to think about the coloring yet.

in other news, finished my 2nd t-shirt related freelance thing. will post images once they are printed.

the idea just lives on
at work. next door a building, connected to ours on friday, is being ripped apart by a backhoe. it keeps making the building shake. they should probably ask us to vacate, but they haven't.

started 3 submissions for a local skateboarding zine called Pink Crack last night. figured it was a good place to test out some of the ideas i have doodled but never developed. the buddha manga i've been reading has seeped the use of hatching and ziptone well into my brain. so i made a quick digital ziptone pattern and threw it on these. i think i'll use a higher resolution, fancier version on some upcoming pieces because its really effortless grayscale.
the first of the doodled, a ghost town and the memory of every mountain and cloud you have seen this year. also, a shell hole featuring a timeline of growth.
old idea, first time i've tried it on actual paper instead of in my mind. if i do these, i would want them under the pen name 'tracy jordache'. they are glorified traces (see: people magazines defaced at my house or the moby piece a month ago), and then modified. so that explains the tracy. on tracy, i want to slap 'jordan' at the end because i love tracy morgan. instead, i'll go for the other hot shoe of the 80s/90s, the jordache.
paul mccartney.
not an old idea, yet. its still fairly fresh in the way things i am currently making look.

wanted*e
been spending more time than I'd like to in the movie theater. i don't really care for seeing movies in the theater unless its something that I really feel i need to see this instant and not wait til the DVD release. That would be the case for Batman and Wes Anderson movies.
anyways. I saw Wall*E on monday. totally adorable. i'd be fine with seeing it again. and I almost got my wish. went to see Wanted on wednesday. Hated the comic book, but was hearing from people at work that the movie was a lot of fun and such. I had the time to kill, so I went. As the trailers started rolling the first one was for some new CGI mouse movie. This was very weird to me. A G-rated trailer playing before an R rated movie. Then came the CGI dog trailer. Then the CGI chihuahua trailer. Then the CGI something else. I knew what was happening here. Then came the CGI short "Presto" which plays before Wall*E. I have never left my seat at the movies in order to complain or report problems, but I sort of had to. They were playing Wall*E in the Wanted theater. I assume this means the Wall*E theater was running the first reel of Wanted, but I really hope not.
Our Consolidated theater was recently bought by Regal theaters. And it has sucked hard since this buy out. I loved seeing stuff at the Consolidated theater. Everything was always right and smooth. Regal is like the plague. If I screwed up at my job as much as they do, I'd have been fired 10 times over.
So, Wanted was boring and not good to me. The first 30-40 minutes are enjoyable because it really has fun being a movie. Anytime you see a guy smack another guy with a keyboard, and the keys and one of his teeth fly in slow motion to spell out "fuck you" for the audience, you know they are having fun. and then the second after that, they stop having fun. for an hour and a half.
got a free ticket out of the experience tho. so, i'll either get to see Hellboy II or Batman II for free. That's a ray of light in the shit colored sky that is Regal theaters.
happy ID4.
