smoke & mirrors

Well well well...

If you notice, they lie right there on the box. I assume this was how they figured out that I didn't live 4 blocks away from the address on the mailing label.

The box was in perfect condition, clearly never opened. Gave it a shake – no rattling broken pieces. Looks fine to me through the first inspection. Hopefully it works as well later on when I set it up.

some friends of mine are getting married on a new york rooftop in march. this is the front of the postcard they will be using to invite/inform people.

also: the L train is currently the worst thing in the world. i'll be walking in the cold instead of taking it for the rest of the week.

missing scanner.

The short version, since I am running around:

1. Bought a Scanner from Epson.com last week.
2. Today wondered, wonder if that should be here yet?
3. Tracked package.
4. Last Thursday it was delivered and signed for...
5. Called FedEx, and they checked. It was delivered to an address a few blocks away, and not even close to my address. The location is a shady looking electronics store.
6. FedEx will go back tomorrow to get it back.

- I expect it will either be
   7a. Lost
   7b. Broken
   7c. Never resolved.

At least it's snowing though, right?

(car sound effects)

i watched this over the weekend a couple times. i love the car sound effects, and also the concept/execution.

kids...

Ate lunch across the street today and flipped through the New York Times while I waited.

This is easily the best thing I've ever read in a newspaper: kids write to obama

Luckily they had an image online of one of my favorites (there were more images in the printed paper):

That's awesome, Jayme. You are awesome.

Um, also...
Dear Obama,

If I were president I would have fun, because I could run fast.

Really tho, I could sit here and block quote the entire article. Go check it out.

• one day in to work, and my desk has already gotten messier than I would like.

• groceries ordered online and delivered to your door is kind of awesome. this is what rich people feel like, i bet.

• seven minutes early, but: happy birthday matt. come up and i'll throw you a party.

• another jobless day.

• in highschool, i bought the entire dune series at a used bookstore in a now destroyed mall. i would always try and start the first one, but the made up words kept throwing me off. now that i have a sense of what those words are, i have started in on the series. a small chunk in to the first book, i can see how different my life would have been if i had a vast dune knowledge in high school.

probably way less friends.

Not where I would have spent my weekends in High School

Was waiting on a sandwich from the delicious café across the street, and read this article in the New York Times while I sat there.

The Army now runs an arcade in a mall...

I suppose this idea is interesting, and a good way to recruit the mass of young gamers...but it still seems strange to me. Would they be strict about what games they carry in this arcade? Would they get Street Fighter 4? Even if you choose to not be contacted about recruitment, they still have all your information since you have to sign up to enter. I'm sure they track via your bar coded badge what games you are playing and how you do, etc. Ick.

in progress: mud

speaking of protecting your language...

this is the top left corner for the current mud gallery comp i am working on. hope to have this site up and running in the near future. '09 for sure.

will most likely have to get a name change before the end. no good urls available for this one.

the idea here would be a gallery that features works of art (words of art) that you visualize in your mind instead of having a visual presented to you. ideally there would be no visual version of any of these pieces. poster sized screen printed or letter pressed posters would be available for each piece in limited quantities. each month, a new artist would provide 8 new works. 12 exhibits a year, 8 pieces per exhibit. 104 characters (with spaces) per piece. ((12*8)+104)=200...maybe a name relating to 200 would fit more than the MUD idea...

pretty intrigued by this digital table and runes set up...

jan 03

• I have completed the ikea dresser. hooray.

• noticed that I only bought 2 of the 4 table legs I needed for my desk. idiot.

• watched Slumdog Millionaire. Was very enjoyable. Next up: Benjamin Button or The Wrestler.

• the reason that Wolverine hasn't popped his claws in 50 years (old man logan) was a pretty good twist.

jan 02

• missions: accomplished. Bonita for lunch, ikea, and comics.

Jan 01

• Woke up on Clay's couch with Mad Men paused on the TV. Hoped to grab a cab in front of his place, but saw my first one right in front of the subway. Oh well.

• Watched The Office Christmas Specials this morning. They were so good. I can't even describe it.

• Napped a bit in between Office specials.

• Worked on a couple drawings for a zine project. Lost motivation and watched some Office extras.

• Listened to the Beach House album. Really good album, that one.

• Plans for tomorrow: Bonita Burrito, comic books, ikea.
